In short: there are three ways to open a FAAC gate with your phone. The manufacturer's route, FAAC Simply Connect: a connectivity device fitted to a compatible FAAC control board, with the app of the same name. An add-on module wired to the board's push-button input, such as Remootio or a GSM module. Or, without a single wire, 1Control SOLO: it copies your FAAC remote (XT2, XT4, TML, T or DL SLH as a master, and the other models on the list) and opens the gate from the app over Bluetooth, with no internet at the gate. Slave remotes, the XT FDS and quartz remotes go through SOLO + KIT.
Two details decide: the control board, which may or may not take Simply Connect, and the exact code on your remote. The general method is in our guide on how to open a gate with your smartphone; with no remote at all, see opening your gate with your phone without a remote. The FAAC information comes from the manufacturer's website.
FAAC gate: the 3 ways to open it with a phone
| Solution | What you need | Installation | Internet needed? | Limits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| FAAC Simply Connect, from the manufacturer | Simply Connect device and app | Device on the compatible FAAC board, by an installer | Yes, for remote control | To be checked on old installations; work in the control box |
| Add-on module, e.g. Remootio or GSM | Module, power supply, Wi-Fi or a SIM with coverage | Wired to the push-button input | Wi-Fi modules: usually; GSM: mobile network | Work in the control box |
| 1Control SOLO, wireless | A working FAAC remote on the list (a master for SLH) | Copied in the app, SOLO on batteries near the gate | Not to open; from anywhere with LINK | Bluetooth 15-20 m; slave, XT FDS, quartz: SOLO + KIT |
None of the three suits everyone. On a recent FAAC installation with an installer, Simply Connect is the natural route; with good Wi-Fi at the gate, a module does the job. When the control box should stay closed (rented home, shared gate, warranty, old board), only copying the remote onto SOLO touches nothing.
FAAC Simply Connect or SOLO: what the manufacturer's app does
Simply Connect is FAAC's platform for running automations from a smartphone. For users, FAAC lists one app to open, close and check the automations, real-time status notifications, management of authorised users and the camera at the entrance; installers use a separate app, Simply Connect PRO. It needs a connectivity device in the control box, for example the XWBL (2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, LAN, Bluetooth Low Energy); for automations not designed for it, FAAC offers the XMULTICOM interface. Details are on FAAC's Simply Connect page.
The difference is the approach: Simply Connect brings the control board online and reports its status, while SOLO leaves the board as it is and uses the remote that already works. With 1Control, the gate status comes from a separate opening sensor with LINK, and there is no camera. On an old operator, buy nothing until the installer has confirmed that the board supports Simply Connect.

Without touching the control board: 1Control SOLO copies the FAAC remote
1Control SOLO learns the radio signal of your FAAC remote once and sends it again when the app asks. It is connected neither to the control box nor to the mains: two C batteries last about two years at ten openings a day. It is weatherproof and mounts near the gate. The app guides the copy:
- Check the code (table below, then the checker). For SLH it must be a master: when you press a button, the LED blinks briefly and then stays on; on a slave it lights up straight away.
- Hold the remote against the notch on the left of SOLO and keep the button pressed until the app tells you to release it.
- With FAAC the app asks you to press the two diagonally opposite buttons together. If it does not ask, the reading failed: try again or change the remote's battery.
- With the gate closed, press the test button: the gate should move.
The remote must work; a lost one cannot be copied. One copy per operator is enough, the standard SOLO handles up to 4 operators of any brand, and the original remotes keep working. More in our guide on copying a remote to your phone.
FAAC remotes and SOLO: copyable, KIT or quartz
The full code on the label decides (SLH, SLR, RC, DS). Of the 49 FAAC models in the checker catalogue, SOLO copies 37; 1 needs SOLO + KIT and 11 are quartz remotes.
| FAAC remote | Frequency and coding | With 1Control SOLO |
|---|---|---|
| XT2, XT4 433 SLH (also LR and Black), XT2, XT4 868 SLH (also LR) | 433 or 868 MHz, rolling code SLH | Copies, if it is a master |
| TML2, TML4 433 SLH; T433 SLH, T868 SLH; DL2, DL4 868 SLH | 433 or 868 MHz, rolling code SLH | Copies, if it is a master |
| TML2, TML4 433 SLR | 433.92 MHz, fixed code | Copies |
| XT4 433 RC (also RC-BE) | 433.92 MHz, rolling code without master/slave | Copies |
| TM1 868 DS, TM 224, TM 300, TM 315, TM2 300, TM2 300S, R40 330, 418 SL | fixed code, various frequencies | Copies |
| XT FDS | 433 MHz, rolling code | KIT needed: SOLO + KIT |
| Quartz: T31, TMN31, T31 MINI, T32 MINI, 40SL | 30.875 or 40.685 MHz, fixed code | Quartz: not copyable, SOLO + KIT; for an extra remote, QZERO |

Slave, XT FDS or quartz remote: SOLO + KIT
Only slaves, an XT FDS or an old T31? SOLO KIT is a receiver with its own fixed-code remote, which a technician connects to the control board; SOLO then copies the KIT remote, and your FAAC remotes keep working. It does mean work on the control board, and on a recent FAAC board Simply Connect is the fair comparison at that point. If you cannot or may not connect anything to the board and have no master, SOLO is not the right answer for that gate. For an extra quartz remote there is 1Control QZERO.
Remootio, GSM modules and other add-ons
Search for a way to open a gate with your phone and you soon find add-ons that do not come from FAAC. Remootio and similar smart modules are wired to the push-button input and work with their maker's app. A GSM module takes a SIM card, is wired the same way and opens when an authorised number calls it (see our GSM gate opener guide). They suit almost any operator, but mean opening the control box, a power supply and Wi-Fi or mobile coverage at the gate. SOLO starts from the radio signal instead: with a copyable FAAC remote the control box stays closed, and access is shared by phone number.
Opening the FAAC gate from anywhere, by voice, from the car
On its own, SOLO works over Bluetooth within 15-20 metres, less through reinforced concrete, so it needs no network, even in an underground car park. To open from anywhere you add 1Control LINK: the hub stays indoors, connects to the internet over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi or Ethernet and relays commands to SOLO over Bluetooth, about 25 metres line of sight. LINK brings Alexa, Google Home, CarPlay and Android Auto; Siri Shortcuts already work with SOLO within Bluetooth range, and with LINK from afar too. SOLO AUTO, the version for the car, appears on CarPlay and Android Auto without LINK. The gate status comes from the opening sensor, which works with LINK.
Sharing the FAAC gate: family, guests, tradespeople
A remote you lend cannot be taken back remotely. A share can: the SOLO administrator creates it in the app with the person's phone number and, if wanted, days, times and an expiry date, for the family, the gardener on Tuesdays or three weeks of builders. Shares are free and revoked in a tap; the standard SOLO is designed for 10 users, SOLO EVO for 50.
FAQ: FAAC gate and smartphone
Is there a FAAC app to open the gate with my phone?
Yes, FAAC Simply Connect, with a connectivity device fitted to a compatible FAAC control board. Without touching the board, there is the 1Control app with 1Control SOLO, which copies a working FAAC master remote. Both apps are available for iPhone and Android.
How can I open my FAAC gate with my phone without touching the control board?
With 1Control SOLO. It mounts near the gate, runs on batteries and copies your FAAC remote once (XT2, XT4, TML, T or DL SLH as a master, plus the other models on the list). From then on the 1Control app opens the gate over Bluetooth, with no cables and no internet.
Can I copy a FAAC slave remote onto SOLO?
No. In FAAC's SLH system only a master can be copied, recognisable by the short blink of the LED. Without a master, 1Control SOLO KIT is the answer: a receiver that a technician connects to the control board, with its own remote that SOLO copies.
Can I open my FAAC gate from anywhere?
Yes. With Simply Connect the command goes through its device on the control board. With 1Control SOLO you add the LINK hub at home, connected over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi or Ethernet: it relays the command to SOLO over Bluetooth and also brings Alexa, Google Home, CarPlay and Android Auto.
Do my original FAAC remotes keep working?
Yes. Copying a remote onto SOLO disables nothing and erases nothing from the receiver: the remotes stay usable, for example by anyone who does not want the app. The same is true with SOLO + KIT.
Conclusion: which route for your FAAC gate?
If the control board is compatible with Simply Connect and an installer looks after it, the manufacturer's app is the route for you. If you have a working XT2, XT4 or TML master, opening a FAAC gate with your phone becomes a one-minute copy onto 1Control SOLO, and LINK adds distance, voice and the car. Only a slave, an XT FDS or a quartz remote? SOLO + KIT, with a technician. The same comparison exists for opening a BFT gate with your phone and opening a Nice gate with your phone.
