Open a Normstahl garage door with your phone: RCU and EA 433

Smartphone with the 1Control app in front of an anthracite garage door: open a Normstahl garage door with your phone

In short: Normstahl's own app, Normstahl CONNECT, is made for the SPARK operator: according to the manufacturer, it opens and closes the garage over Bluetooth on site and, with an optional accessory, from afar too. For other Normstahl operators, the remote decides. Of the 11 Normstahl remotes in the compatibility checker, 1Control SOLO copies 4: the RCU 4332K, RCU433 4K, EA433-K and EA4333-KM, all rolling-code remotes at 433.92 MHz. SOLO then opens the garage from the 1Control app over Bluetooth, with no wiring on the operator and no internet in the garage. The T14429 and the six 40 MHz quartz remotes (T40 and FHS10) cannot be copied: for them there is SOLO + KIT.

Normstahl is a German brand of garage doors and operators which, as its website states, is now part of the ASSA ABLOY Group. The general method, for any brand, is in our guide to a smart garage door opener without Wi-Fi; for sectional and up-and-over doors in particular, see roller, sectional and up-and-over garage doors from your phone. Details on CONNECT come from Normstahl's pages (checked on 23/10/2026), details on the remotes from the 1Control checker catalogue.

With a SPARK, CONNECT is the manufacturer's route. With an older Normstahl operator and an RCU or EA remote, the route that touches nothing is copying the remote to SOLO.

Normstahl CONNECT or SOLO: what the Normstahl app does

Normstahl presents Normstahl CONNECT as the technology to open, close and configure the garage door operator, on site or from afar. There are two apps: the User app for the people who use the garage, and Connect Pro for installers, who use it for installation, setup and maintenance. According to Normstahl, the User app gives full control of a garage door with the SPARK operator: on site it connects over Bluetooth, from afar over Wi-Fi or the mobile network with an optional accessory. Users also decide which installer gets access when there is a fault or a service. The app is available for iOS and Android.

Two things are not on Normstahl's pages: which accessory remote control needs, and whether CONNECT can be added to older operators such as the Magic or Ultra. The decisive point is the first one: CONNECT is described for the SPARK. SOLO starts from the remote instead: if yours is on the list, the operator stays as it is, however old it is, and the same 1Control app also holds the gate or door of another brand. Family and guests get free access on their phone number, with time slots and an expiry date if needed.

No wiring: 1Control SOLO copies the Normstahl remote

1Control SOLO learns the radio signal of your Normstahl remote once and sends it again whenever the app asks. It is connected neither to the operator nor to the mains: two C batteries last about two years at around ten openings a day. It is mounted near the door, and the 1Control app guides the copy:

  1. Check the remote model (table below, then the checker) and start with the door closed, close to the garage.
  2. Hold the remote against the notch on the left side of SOLO and keep the button pressed until the app tells you to release it.
  3. RCU and EA remotes use rolling code: the operator may need to accept the new transmitter once with its programming button, as with a new remote. The app tells you if and when this is needed.
  4. Wait until the door is fully closed, then tap the round test button: if the door starts moving, the copy is done.

The remote must work, with a charged battery, and be an original: a lost remote cannot be copied and imitations often read badly. The original remotes keep working, and a standard SOLO handles up to 4 automations, even of different brands.

Normstahl remotes and SOLO: copies, KIT or quartz

The catalogue of the compatibility checker lists 11 Normstahl remotes: SOLO copies 4, the other 7 go through SOLO + KIT. The model name is on the back of the remote or in the battery compartment. The two generations do not mix: an operator with a 433 MHz receiver does not recognise a 40 MHz T40, and vice versa.

The final word belongs to the compatibility checker, under Normstahl: compatibility always means "if the model is on the list".

T14429, T40 and FHS10: SOLO + KIT

The T14429 is a 433 MHz rolling-code remote that SOLO does not copy; the T40 and FHS10 work at 40.685 MHz, a frequency SOLO does not copy. For them the route to your phone is SOLO KIT: a receiver with its own fixed-code remote, connected to the operator by a technician; SOLO copies the KIT remote and your Normstahl remotes keep working. The KIT does not depend on the operator's radio, so it also suits the oldest Normstahl operators. If you cannot connect anything to the operator and your remote is not on the list, SOLO is not the right fit for you. If you only need an extra remote for the quartz models, 1Control QZERO copies it; for the T14429 you need an original Normstahl remote, stored on the operator.

ismartgate, Delta Dore and GSM modules

ismartgate sells smart openers that turn an existing garage door operator into one you control with an app: like Remootio, they are wired to the push-button input of the operator and run on their maker's app. Home-automation brands such as Delta Dore also offer gate and garage door control from the phone, inside their own systems. A GSM module takes a SIM card, is wired the same way and opens when an authorised number calls. They fit almost any operator, but they mean work on the operator and they need signal in the garage, which is often missing underground. SOLO starts from the radio signal instead: with a Normstahl remote from the list, the operator stays as it is.

Your Normstahl garage from afar, by voice and from the car

On its own, SOLO works over Bluetooth within 15 to 20 metres, less through reinforced concrete: it needs no network, even in an underground car park, but it will not open from the office. To open from anywhere, add 1Control LINK: the hub stays indoors, connects to the internet over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi or Ethernet and passes commands to SOLO over Bluetooth, within about 25 metres in a straight line. LINK brings Alexa, Google Home, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto; Siri Shortcuts already work with SOLO within Bluetooth range and, with LINK, from afar too. SOLO AUTO, the version you keep in the car, appears on CarPlay and Android Auto without LINK (see open your gate with CarPlay). All of this also works with the KIT.

FAQ: Normstahl garage doors and your phone

Is there a Normstahl app to open the garage door with a phone?

Yes: Normstahl CONNECT. According to Normstahl, the User app controls a garage door with the SPARK operator, over Bluetooth on site and, with an optional accessory, over Wi-Fi or the mobile network from afar. For other Normstahl operators the manufacturer gives no information: with a remote from the list, 1Control SOLO opens the garage from the 1Control app, with no wiring on the operator.

Which Normstahl remotes can 1Control SOLO copy?

The RCU 4332K, RCU433 4K, EA433-K and EA4333-KM, all rolling-code remotes at 433.92 MHz: 4 of the 11 models in the catalogue of 23/10/2026. The T14429 and the 40.685 MHz quartz remotes (T40-1, T40-1M, T40-4, T40-4M, FHS10-01, FHS10-02) cannot be copied: for the phone, the route is SOLO + KIT.

I have an old Normstahl T40 remote: can I open the garage with my phone?

Yes, with SOLO + KIT: a receiver with its own remote, connected to the operator by a technician; SOLO copies the KIT remote and opens from the 1Control app. The T40 keeps working. For an extra T40, there is 1Control QZERO.

Can I open my Normstahl garage door when I am away from home?

Yes, with the LINK hub: it stays indoors, connects to the internet over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi or Ethernet and passes the command to SOLO over Bluetooth. Without LINK, SOLO only opens from close by, within 15 to 20 metres.

Summary: which route for your Normstahl garage door

With a SPARK, Normstahl CONNECT is the manufacturer's route. With a working RCU 4332K, RCU433 4K, EA433-K or EA4333-KM, opening a Normstahl garage door with your phone becomes a copy of a few minutes on 1Control SOLO, without touching the operator; LINK adds distance, voice and car. A T14429, T40 or FHS10? SOLO + KIT, with a technician, on any Normstahl operator. The wider picture, without Wi-Fi in the garage, is in our guide to a smart garage door opener without Wi-Fi.
