In short: there are two main ways to open a Novoferm garage door with your phone. The manufacturer's route, Novoferm SmartHome: on drives built from 2016 a module is fitted (for Homematic IP or Delta Dore, or the Novoferm Wi-Fi module for Alexa and Google Home) and you use the app of the system you chose, always with a router and internet at home. Or, without touching the drive, 1Control SOLO: it copies the Novoferm remote you already use (a Novotron 502 or 504, a Mini-Novotron and the other models on the list) and opens from the app over Bluetooth, with no internet in the garage. Today's Novoline remotes are not on the list: for them the route is the Novoferm module or SOLO + KIT.
Two labels decide: the year of the drive (on the rating plate of the drive head) and the model of the remote (on the back or in the battery compartment). Online you will also find Wi-Fi modules from other makers that are wired to the drive, such as ismartgate, which publishes pages for several Novoferm models: they are in the comparison below. This page covers Novoferm only, and Tormatic, the brand of its drives; the general method is in our guide to a smart garage door opener without Wi-Fi. The information on the Novoferm modules comes from the manufacturer's website.
Novoferm garage door and phone: the options side by side
| Solution | What you need | Installation | Internet needed? | Limits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Novoferm SmartHome module, the manufacturer's route | A Novoferm drive from 2016, the module, a router with internet and the app of the system (Homematic IP, Tydom, Alexa, Google Home) | Module on the drive; if in doubt, the installer fits it | Yes: according to Novoferm a router with internet is a requirement | Drives from 2016 only, for example Novomatic 423 and NovoPort III |
| Wi-Fi module from another maker, for example ismartgate | The module, its power supply, Wi-Fi in the garage and the maker's app | Wires on the push-button input of the drive's control board | Usually yes | Wi-Fi is often weak in garages; you work on the drive |
| 1Control SOLO, wireless | A working Novoferm remote that is on the list, and the 1Control app | No wiring: the remote is copied in the app, SOLO hangs near the door, on batteries | Not for opening (Bluetooth); with the LINK hub, also from anywhere | Bluetooth range 15-20 m; Novoline and quartz remotes: SOLO + KIT |
None of them is best for everyone. With a drive from 2016 that you want in a smart home anyway, the Novoferm module is the natural route. With good Wi-Fi in the garage and an electrician at hand, a wired module from another maker can work. If you would rather not touch the drive, have an older Novomatic or no network in the garage, SOLO puts the door on your phone without connecting anything.
Novoferm SmartHome app: the module on the drive
Novoferm states that all garage doors with a Novoferm drive built from 2016 are suitable for app control; the models it names include the Novomatic 423, Novomatic Speed 573 S, NovoPort III from 2016 and NovoPort Speed. The connection goes through one of two modules: the plug-in module for the Homematic IP and Delta Dore systems (Tydom app), or the Novoferm Wi-Fi module for Amazon Alexa and Google Home, which according to Novoferm need no smart home hub of their own.
What you get, according to the manufacturer: control of the door and its status (open, closed or in the ventilation position), switching the drive light and opening the door a crack. For all systems Novoferm requires a standard router with internet at home. If your drive was built before 2016, Novoferm does not list this route; what remains is copying the remote.

SOLO: copy the Novoferm remote you already have
1Control SOLO starts from the remote, not from the drive: it learns the radio signal once and sends it again when you tap the button in the app. SOLO is connected neither to the drive nor to the mains: two C batteries, already fitted, last about two years at ten openings a day. It is weatherproof, hangs near the door and talks to your phone over Bluetooth, so no internet is needed in the garage. One SOLO handles up to four automations, even from different brands.
The app guides the copy: check the model in the compatibility checker under Novoferm, hold the remote next to SOLO and keep the button pressed until the app tells you to release it, then test the door. You copy a working original remote with a fresh battery (a lost or broken one cannot be copied); one copy per door is enough, and the original remotes keep working: nothing is erased from the drive.
With Novoferm remotes, the digits tell you the series:
| Remote model | Frequency | With 1Control |
|---|---|---|
| Novotron 502 MAX 43-2, Novotron 504 MAX 43-4, Mini-Novotron 502, 504, Micro-Novotron 512 | 433.92 MHz, rolling code | Copies onto SOLO |
| Mini-Novotron 302, Micro-Novotron 312, MCHS, MNHS | 433.92 MHz, rolling code | Copies onto SOLO |
| Mini-Novotron 402, Novotron 202 MB, HS 43-1E, M512 | 433.92 MHz, fixed code | Copies onto SOLO |
| Novoline 502, 503, 504, 522 Premium, 524 Premium | 433 MHz | Needs the KIT (SOLO + KIT) |
| FHS10-01, FHS10-02, MS41-2, S41-1, S41-2, S41-4 | 40.685 MHz | Quartz remote: not copyable, SOLO + KIT; for an extra remote, QZERO |
| M512-1, M512-2 | 26.985 MHz | Quartz remote: not copyable, SOLO + KIT; for an extra remote, QZERO |
1Control compatibility catalogue, 23/10/2026: 26 Novoferm models, 13 copyable. The check on your exact model is what counts.
Novoline and quartz remotes: SOLO + KIT
The Novoline 502, 503, 504, 522 Premium and 524 Premium are not on the SOLO list, and the old 40 MHz and 27 MHz remotes (FHS10, MS41, S41, M512-1 and M512-2) cannot be copied. For these there is SOLO KIT: a small receiver with its own fixed-code remote that is connected to the drive's control board; SOLO then copies the KIT remote instead of the Novoferm one, and your original remotes keep working. The KIT involves a connection to the drive: if you are not comfortable with that, have a technician do it. With a drive from 2016, the fair comparison at that point is the Novoferm module. If you have an old quartz system and only want an extra remote, QZERO is the answer.
Tormatic drive: opening it with your phone
Tormatic is part of Novoferm: Novoferm tormatic GmbH is the group company that builds the drives, which is why the Tormatic name appears on Novoferm drives, remotes and manuals. For the app, the route is the one described above, the SmartHome module on the drive, where the manufacturer provides for it. With SOLO you start from the remote: in the compatibility checker under Tormatic, 4 of the 12 listed models can be copied today, the 433 MHz HS43 series (HS43-1E, 2E, 3E and 4E); the Tormatic 600 and Black Design go through SOLO + KIT, and the old 40 MHz S41, MS41 and TX41 are quartz remotes. The Tormatic name on the drive is not enough: the model of the remote decides.
From anywhere, by voice, in the car: SOLO + LINK
On its own SOLO is a Bluetooth solution: your phone has to be within 15-20 metres, less through reinforced concrete. In return it works without any network, even in an underground garage. To open from anywhere you add the 1Control LINK hub: it stays indoors, connected to the router over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi or an Ethernet cable, and talks to SOLO over Bluetooth (about 25 metres line of sight). LINK also brings Alexa, Google Home and the app on CarPlay and Android Auto, while Siri Shortcuts already work with SOLO over Bluetooth. For the car there is also SOLO AUTO, which travels in the car and appears on CarPlay and Android Auto without LINK. SOLO does not report whether the door is open or closed: that is the job of the opening sensor, which works with LINK; the ventilation position of the Novoferm modules is not a SOLO feature.
With remotes, every extra person means an extra remote to buy and program. With SOLO the administrator creates free shares in the app, with the person's phone number and, if wanted, days, hours and an expiry date: the family, the cleaner on Thursday mornings, the builders for three weeks. A share is revoked with a tap, with nothing to collect back.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a Novoferm app to open the garage door?
Novoferm offers the SmartHome route for drives built from 2016: a plug-in module for Homematic IP or Delta Dore (Tydom app), or the Novoferm Wi-Fi module for Alexa and Google Home, always with a router with internet at home. Whatever the year of the drive, the 1Control app works with SOLO, as long as your Novoferm remote is on the compatibility list.
Can I open my Novoferm garage door with my phone without wiring anything to the drive?
Yes, with 1Control SOLO. SOLO copies the radio signal of your working Novoferm remote, for example a Novotron 502 or 504, and sends it when you ask from the app, over Bluetooth and without internet. It runs on batteries, needs no cables or socket, and the original remotes keep working.
Which Novoferm remotes does SOLO copy?
The Novotron and Mini-Novotron series on 433.92 MHz: Novotron 502 MAX and 504 MAX, Mini-Novotron 302, 402, 502 and 504, Micro-Novotron 312 and 512, MCHS, MNHS, Novotron 202 MB, HS 43-1E and M512. The Novoline series (502, 503, 504, 522 and 524 Premium) and the 40 and 27 MHz quartz remotes cannot be copied: for those there is SOLO + KIT. The compatibility check on your exact model is what counts.
My Novoferm drive is older than 2016. What can I do?
Novoferm lists app control only for drives from 2016. With an older Novomatic or NovoPort, the route without any work on the drive is copying the remote with SOLO; if your remote is not on the list, SOLO + KIT.
Do the original Novoferm remotes keep working?
Yes. Copying onto SOLO disables nothing: the remotes stay usable, for example by anyone who does not want the app. The same is true with SOLO + KIT.
In short
Two questions are enough. Is your drive from 2016 or later and do you want it in a smart home, with the installer? The Novoferm module is the manufacturer's route. Do you have a working Novotron or Mini-Novotron and no wish to connect anything? Then open your Novoferm garage door with your phone through 1Control SOLO, with free shares for the family and, with LINK, from anywhere. The same comparison for another garage door brand is in open a Hörmann garage door with your phone.
