In short: there are two ways to open a Hörmann garage door with your phone. Hörmann's own way: the BlueSecur app, over Bluetooth, with the receiver already built into the SupraMatic 4 and added to the ProMatic 4 and older operators; for opening from away, Hörmann offers its gateways. The way that leaves the operator alone: 1Control SOLO copies the Hörmann remote you already use and opens the door from the app, over Bluetooth. If your remote is a BiSecur (suffix "BS", 868 MHz), the right version is SOLO BS; the old quartz remotes on 27 and 40 MHz cannot be copied, and for them the route is SOLO + KIT.
Which route makes sense depends on two things: the series of the operator, printed on the type plate and on the cover of the manual, and the model code of the remote in your pocket. This page is only about Hörmann; the general method for every brand is in the guide to a smart garage door opener without Wi-Fi. Everything about BlueSecur and the gateways comes from Hörmann's website and manuals (September 2026): what the manufacturer does not state is not stated here either.
Which Hörmann operator, which way to the phone
| Hörmann operator | Hörmann's solution | Wireless, with 1Control SOLO |
|---|---|---|
| SupraMatic 4 (E4, P4) | BlueSecur built in. From away: Hörmann Wi-Fi gateway or the homee hub. | Possible: the BiSecur (BS) remote is copied onto SOLO BS. Useful if you want several entrances, of any brand, in one app. |
| ProMatic 4 | BlueSecur with the HET-BLE Bluetooth receiver added. Wi-Fi gateway or homee for remote access. | Possible: BiSecur remote copied onto SOLO BS, with no connection to the operator. |
| SupraMatic series 3 | BlueSecur only through an external Bluetooth receiver; gateways depending on the year of manufacture (check the manual). | Possible: a BS remote, or an 868 MHz fixed-code remote (HSM4 868, HSE2 868) on standard SOLO. |
| ProMatic 3 and older | BlueSecur only with an external receiver; the gateways do not list them. | Possible if the remote is in the list; with the 27 and 40 MHz quartz remotes you need SOLO + KIT. |
| EcoStar Liftronic (the Hörmann group's budget line) | Gateway only on the "-2" series; BlueSecur depending on the year. | Possible with the 433 MHz EcoStar remotes in the list; the 40 MHz ones are not. |
One rule applies to every row: Hörmann requires an additional photocell whenever the door is operated out of sight. It is the manufacturer's requirement for its gateways, but it is common sense for any remote opening.
BlueSecur: Hörmann's Bluetooth app
BlueSecur is Hörmann's Bluetooth solution: the phone talks directly to a receiver inside or next to the operator. According to Hörmann, the app controls garage doors and entrance gates and switches the operator light. The app is free; permissions are handled through digital "keys": whoever scans the QR code of the supplied key card first is the administrator and hands out keys to the other users. Additional user keys are purchased from the manufacturer, at its price list; Hörmann also provides free one-time keys with a limited validity.
The limit is the one of every Bluetooth solution: you open only within range, and the range, Hörmann says, depends a lot on the phone. BlueSecur will not open the garage from the office; for that Hörmann points to its Wi-Fi gateway and the homee hub, separate products that require an operator compatible with its HCP interface.
Can BlueSecur be retrofitted?
- SupraMatic 4: the Bluetooth receiver is already inside; nothing to add.
- ProMatic 4, LineaMatic, RotaMatic, VersaMatic: Hörmann names the HET-BLE receiver "for easy retrofitting".
- Older operators: according to Hörmann they can be controlled with BlueSecur through an external receiver, which is wired to the operator.

SOLO BS copies the Hörmann BiSecur remote
1Control SOLO is a wireless gate opener: it is connected neither to the operator nor to the mains, runs on two C batteries that last about two years at ten openings a day, is fixed near the door and, through the 1Control app, learns the signal of your remote once. From then on it transmits it on command from your phone, over Bluetooth: no internet is needed in the garage, which matters in underground car parks. The original remotes keep working, and one SOLO in the standard version controls up to four automations, even of different brands.
Two conditions: a working original remote with a fresh battery, and a model that appears in the compatibility list. Nobody can copy a lost or broken remote. For Hörmann the list reads like this:
Hörmann remotes and SOLO: what can be copied and what cannot
| Radio family | Models in the compatibility checker | With 1Control |
|---|---|---|
| BiSecur (868 MHz, suffix "BS") | HS1-868 BS, HS2-868 BS, HS4-868 BS, HS5-868 BS, HSE1-868 BS, HSE2-868 BS, HSE4-868 BS, HSE5-868 BS | Copied with SOLO BS, the version made for BiSecur. The checker takes you straight to it. |
| 868 MHz fixed code | HSM4 868, HSE2 868, HS868, HSP4-868 | Copied with SOLO |
| 433 MHz | HSM4 433, HSE2 433, HS433, FCT3B-433 | Copied with SOLO |
| 26.975–27.015 MHz and 40.685 MHz (quartz generation) | HS2, HS4, HSM2, HSM4, HSE2, DH and DHM on these frequencies | Cannot be copied. For the phone: SOLO + KIT; for a second physical remote: QZERO. |
The compatibility checker always has the last word on your exact model; the Hörmann page sums up the families. With the quartz remotes, SOLO KIT is a small receiver with its own compatible remote, which an installer connects to the operator's control board: SOLO copies the KIT remote and the old remotes keep working.
How a Hörmann remote is copied onto SOLO
- Check the model in the checker and start the copy with the door closed, near the door: with Hörmann the app asks for this because SOLO has to talk to the operator during the copy.
- Hold the remote against the notch on the left side of SOLO and follow the instructions in the 1Control app.
- Press the remote button and keep it pressed until the app tells you to release it. With BiSecur remotes (HS-BS) this applies even if the LED of the remote goes out in the meantime.
- Then comes the test: wait until the door is fully closed, then tap the round button. If the door moves, the copy is done.
Copy an original remote, not a cheap clone: its signal is often harder to read. If the door already responds badly to the original, change the battery of the remote first.
Opening the Hörmann garage from away and by voice
SOLO on its own is a Bluetooth solution: your phone has to be nearby, typically within 15 to 20 metres, less through reinforced concrete. Opening for the courier while you are at the office is not possible with SOLO alone, exactly as with BlueSecur.
For the internet, SOLO needs the 1Control LINK hub: it sits indoors, connected to the router over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi or an Ethernet cable, with no SIM card, and talks to SOLO over Bluetooth; the two should be within about 25 metres in a straight line, less through walls. LINK adds remote opening from the app, voice commands with Amazon Alexa and Google Home, Siri shortcuts from anywhere and Apple CarPlay / Android Auto (without LINK, in the car, there is the SOLO AUTO version, which does not have the LINK functions). What you really need to open when you are not at home is explained in open your gate from anywhere.
Family, guests, tradespeople: sharing the Hörmann garage
With remotes, every extra person means an extra remote to program. With SOLO, sharing is done in the app: you pick the phone number and the entrance and set a start date, an expiry date and time windows. The person receiving the share installs the 1Control app, registers with that same number and finds the garage ready. Sharing is free and can be changed or deleted whenever you like: the builder's access ends with the job. Administrators see in the history when the door was operated; the standard version of SOLO is designed for 10 users, more can be added from the app. The app does not track anyone's location.
Frequently asked questions about Hörmann garages and phones
Can I open my Hörmann garage door with my phone?
Yes. The SupraMatic 4 already has the Bluetooth receiver for the BlueSecur app, the ProMatic 4 adds it with the HET-BLE, older operators use an external receiver. Alternatively, 1Control SOLO copies the Hörmann remote you already use, with no connection to the operator: for BiSecur remotes you need the SOLO BS version.
What is the difference between BiSecur and BlueSecur?
BiSecur is the 868 MHz radio system of the Hörmann remotes marked "BS". BlueSecur is Hörmann's Bluetooth app, which controls the operator through a Bluetooth receiver. A BiSecur remote is copied onto 1Control SOLO BS; BlueSecur is the manufacturer's alternative and has nothing to do with copying.
What is SOLO BS?
It is the version of 1Control SOLO made for the Hörmann BiSecur remotes (HS1-868 BS, HS2-868 BS, HS4-868 BS, HS5-868 BS, HSE1/2/4/5-868 BS). When you enter a BS model, the compatibility checker takes you to this version. Hörmann 868 MHz fixed-code remotes and 433 MHz remotes are copied with standard SOLO.
Can I open my Hörmann garage door from away?
Not with BlueSecur: it works over Bluetooth, near the door. For that Hörmann offers the Wi-Fi gateway and the homee hub, for compatible operators. With 1Control SOLO, remote access comes with the LINK hub, connected to the internet over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Out of sight of the door, Hörmann requires an additional photocell.
I have a 40 MHz Hörmann remote: what can I do?
The quartz remotes on 26.975, 27.015 and 40.685 MHz cannot be copied over the air. To open with the phone the route is SOLO + KIT, a receiver with its own remote that an installer connects to the control board; if you simply want a second physical remote, there is QZERO.
Conclusion: BlueSecur or SOLO BS for your Hörmann garage
Opening a Hörmann garage door with your phone starts with knowing which series you have. On the SupraMatic 4 BlueSecur is already on board, on the ProMatic 4 it is one accessory away; whoever wants remote access with the Hörmann system goes through the gateways. On everything else, and for anyone who does not want to touch the operator, 1Control SOLO copies the remote: SOLO BS for BiSecur, SOLO for 868 and 433 MHz, SOLO + KIT for the quartz ones, with free sharing for the family and, with LINK, opening from away too.
