Open an EcoStar garage door with your phone: RSC, RSE, RSZ

Smartphone with the 1Control app in front of an anthracite garage door: open an EcoStar garage door with your phone

In short: there is no EcoStar app for the garage door, but in most cases the remote you already use is enough. Of the 7 EcoStar remotes in the compatibility checker, 1Control SOLO copies 5: the rolling-code RSC, RSE and RSZ and the fixed-code "40 - 1" and "40 - 2", all at 433.92 MHz. SOLO then opens the garage from the 1Control app over Bluetooth, with no wiring on the operator and no internet in the garage. The two 40 MHz quartz remotes of the first generation cannot be copied: for them there is SOLO + KIT.

EcoStar is the budget line of the Hörmann group, sold through DIY stores and online: the Liftronic 500, 700 and 800 operators and their series 2 successors. The general method, for any brand, is in our guide to a smart garage door opener without Wi-Fi; for Hörmann operators themselves, see open a Hörmann garage door with your phone. Operator and remote details come from the EcoStar manuals, the Hörmann solutions from the manufacturer's pages.

EcoStar garage door and phone: the 3 routes side by side

SolutionWhat you needInstallationInternet needed?Limits
Hörmann Wi-Fi gateway, from the groupA series 2 Liftronic (500-2, 700-2, 800-2) and the gatewayConnected to the operator through the HCP interfaceYesSeries 2 only: Hörmann does not list it for the first Liftronic series
Smart module from another brandA Wi-Fi or GSM module, a power supply, signal in the garageCable to the push-button input of the operatorWi-Fi: almost always; GSM: mobile networkWork on the operator; app of the module's maker

With a series 2 Liftronic and Wi-Fi in the garage, the Hörmann gateway is the manufacturer's route. For a first-series Liftronic, the route that touches nothing is copying the remote to SOLO.

EcoStar app? BlueSecur, Hörmann gateway or SOLO

EcoStar does not offer its own app or a Bluetooth module for the Liftronic operators. EcoStar belongs to the Hörmann group, but Hörmann's smart solutions are designed for Hörmann operators. BlueSecur, Hörmann's Bluetooth app, works with a receiver built into or added to the operator; Hörmann does not list it among the accessories of the Liftronic range, so check your operator's manual before you buy anything. The Hörmann Wi-Fi gateway, connected to the operator through the HCP interface, appears in Hörmann's overview of compatible operators (July 2026) for the series 2 Liftronic 500-2, 700-2 and 800-2; the first series is not there.

The radio is different too. EcoStar remotes transmit at 433 MHz, Hörmann BiSecur remotes at 868 MHz: for EcoStar you need the standard SOLO, not SOLO BS, the version made for Hörmann BiSecur remotes. Series 2 uses the BiSecur name for its remotes as well, the RSC 4 BiSecur and the RSZ 1 BiSecur, but at 433 MHz, and they are not in the checker today.

No wiring: 1Control SOLO copies the EcoStar remote

1Control SOLO learns the radio signal of your EcoStar remote once and sends it again whenever the app asks. It is connected neither to the operator nor to the mains: two C batteries last about two years at around ten openings a day. It is mounted near the door, and the 1Control app guides the copy:

  1. Check the remote model (table below, then the checker) and start with the door closed, close to the garage.
  2. Hold the remote against the notch on the left side of SOLO and keep the button pressed until the app tells you to release it.
  3. With the rolling-code RSC, RSE and RSZ, the Liftronic receiver may need to accept the new transmitter once with the P button on the operator, as with a new remote: the app guides you through this step.
  4. Wait until the door is fully closed, then tap the round test button: if the door starts moving, the copy is done.

The remote must work, with a charged battery, and be an original: a lost remote cannot be copied and imitations often read badly. One detail of the first Liftronic series: according to the manual, the receiver stores up to 6 remote buttons, and a seventh deletes the first one without warning. SOLO takes a place too, so count the stored ones first. The original remotes keep working, and a standard SOLO handles up to 4 automations, even of different brands. Family and guests get free access in the app on their phone number.

EcoStar remotes and SOLO: copies, KIT or quartz

The catalogue of the compatibility checker lists 7 EcoStar remotes: SOLO copies 5, the other 2 are quartz remotes. Mind the similar names: "40 - 1" and "40 MHZ - 1" look alike, but the first is a 433 MHz remote that copies, the second a 40.685 MHz quartz remote that does not. The model name is on the back of the remote or in the battery compartment.

Catalogue of the 1Control compatibility checker, as of 23/10/2026. The last row is not in the catalogue: it comes from the EcoStar series 2 manuals.

The final word belongs to the compatibility checker, under EcoStar: compatibility always means "if the model is on the list".

40 MHz quartz and series 2 BiSecur: SOLO + KIT

The "40 MHZ - 1" and "40 MHZ - 2" work at 40.685 MHz, a frequency SOLO does not copy. For them the route to your phone is SOLO KIT: a receiver with its own fixed-code remote, connected to the operator by a technician; SOLO copies the KIT remote and your EcoStar remotes keep working. It is also the safe route for the series 2 RSC 4 BiSecur and RSZ 1 BiSecur as long as they are not in the checker: before trying a copy, ask 1Control support. If you cannot connect anything to the operator and your remote is not on the list, SOLO is not the right fit for you. If you only need an extra remote for the quartz models, 1Control QZERO copies it.

Remootio, ismartgate and GSM modules

Remootio and ismartgate are smart openers wired to the push-button input of the operator, with their own maker's app. A GSM module takes a SIM card, is wired the same way and opens when an authorised number calls. They fit almost any operator, but they mean work on the operator and they need signal in the garage, which is often missing underground. SOLO starts from the radio signal instead: with an EcoStar remote from the list, the operator stays as it is.

Your EcoStar garage from afar, by voice and from the car

On its own, SOLO works over Bluetooth within 15 to 20 metres, less through reinforced concrete: it needs no network, even in an underground car park, but it will not open from the office. To open from anywhere, add 1Control LINK: the hub stays indoors, connects to the internet over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi or Ethernet and passes commands to SOLO over Bluetooth, within about 25 metres in a straight line. LINK brings Alexa, Google Home, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto; Siri Shortcuts already work with SOLO within Bluetooth range and, with LINK, from afar too. SOLO AUTO, the version you keep in the car, appears on CarPlay and Android Auto without LINK (see open your gate with CarPlay). All of this also works with the KIT.

FAQ: EcoStar garage doors and your phone

Is there an EcoStar app to open the garage door with a phone?

No: EcoStar does not offer its own app or a Bluetooth module for the Liftronic operators. Hörmann lists its Wi-Fi gateway for the series 2 Liftronic 500-2, 700-2 and 800-2, not for the first series. With an EcoStar remote from the list, 1Control SOLO opens the garage from the 1Control app, with no wiring on the operator.

Which EcoStar remotes can 1Control SOLO copy?

RSC, RSE and RSZ (rolling code) and "40 - 1" and "40 - 2" (fixed code), all at 433.92 MHz: 5 of the 7 models in the catalogue of 23/10/2026. The "40 MHZ - 1" and "40 MHZ - 2" at 40.685 MHz are quartz remotes: for the phone, the route is SOLO + KIT.

Do I need SOLO BS for an EcoStar garage door?

No. SOLO BS is the version for Hörmann BiSecur remotes at 868 MHz; the EcoStar RSC, RSE and RSZ are copied by the standard SOLO. The series 2 RSC 4 BiSecur and RSZ 1 BiSecur transmit at 433 MHz and are not in the checker today: ask 1Control support before buying; the safe route is SOLO + KIT.

Can I open my EcoStar garage door when I am away from home?

Yes, with the LINK hub: it stays indoors, connects to the internet over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi or Ethernet and passes the command to SOLO over Bluetooth. Without LINK, SOLO only opens from close by, within 15 to 20 metres.

Summary: which route for your EcoStar garage door

With a working RSC, RSE, RSZ, "40 - 1" or "40 - 2", opening an EcoStar garage door with your phone becomes a copy of a few minutes on 1Control SOLO, without touching the operator; LINK adds distance, voice and car. A 40 MHz quartz remote or a series 2 RSC 4 BiSecur? SOLO + KIT, with a technician, on any operator. For a series 2 Liftronic with Wi-Fi in the garage, the Hörmann gateway is the manufacturer's route. The comparison for Hörmann operators, with BlueSecur and SOLO BS, is in open a Hörmann garage door with your phone.
